About the event
Damien Echols, one of the West Memphis Three, was jailed in 1993 for the murder of three young boys. After 18 years on death row, Ecchols was exonerated by DNA evidence - evidence which pointed to the one of the victim's step-father. Echols survived the torment of the darkest corners of American justice by embarking on a dedicated path in Western esotericism. Now free since 2011, Echols is the New York Times bestselling author of several books, including Life After Death; High Magick: A Guide to the Spiritual Practices That Saved My Life on Death Row with a forward by Eddie Vedder; and, more recently, Angels and Archangels: A Magician's Guide, which he co-authored with John Michael Greer.
TALK TITLE AND SYNOPSIS
“The Great Work”
"The condensed idea is that ceremonial magick is a path – a path with a definite destination we are attempting to arrive at, the mile markers to be met along the way, and I’ll even touch briefly on how some of the same information encoded in the rituals of ceremonial magick are also contained in the symbolism of masonry - such as with the square and compass.
Most people think magick is just about making things happen, or manifesting things - cursing enemies, obtaining money and power, getting sex - whatever. I want to talk about how this is a distorted view of what magick is, and shed more light on what it truly is.” – Damien Echols.
